About Us
Northeast Trailworks takes pride in partnering with you to realize your vision, to design and build sustainable trails.
Humans have been making trails for millennia, but it's really only the past several years that a science behind sustainable trail building has arisen. We are ready to help on your project — from large to small, from planning to building, to maintenance, repair, or re-routing & re-naturalization.
Northeast Trailworks is positioned to help with just about any trails project--from large to small, from planning to building, to maintenance or repairs.
Current Conditions Inventory
With ever changing patterns of weather and trail users, having an accurate assessment on current trail conditions is crucial. Following a Trail Assessments and Condition Surveys (TRACS) methodology, we can create an inventory of the trails and technical features, assessments on their current conditions, and prescriptions to help maintain sustainability and a positive user experience.
We can take a blank slate of space and develop a trail or trail system that meets the needs of the end users and land management organizations. By looking at topography, soil characteristics, and other on-the-ground features, and incorporating the trails' goals, we'll make a plan that can be used as a build blueprint.
This is what we love: moving earth, whether by hand tool or machine, and working with the natural environment. We'll take a trail from a vision or concept to reality. Our builds, like everything we do, also focus on sustainability and protection of important environmental resources.
Trail Repair & Maintenance
As we're reminded on a daily basis, even things made of steel and stone can be damaged, and natural surface trails are no different. We can repair and remediate storm or user damage that can occur from storms, increased visitors, vandalism, or originally unsustainable designs. We can also take care of routine maintenance to manage vegetation overgrowth and other common needs.
From a simple two plank 'puncheon' style bridge across relatively flat terrain & low spots, to sophisticated engineered long span structures with capacities ranging from foot / bicycle traffic to ATV, horse, or full size vehicles - we can design, site, and install whatever kind of structure is needed for the user group(s), site conditions, and aesthetic desire.
We actively engage with local communities to foster a deeper appreciation for outdoor spaces and trail networks. Through outreach programs and educational initiatives, we strive to create a sense of community ownership and pride in the trails we help create and maintain. From messaging around a new or renovated trail, to in-person or hybrid meetings - we're happy to help get your message refined & delivered.
If a trail is damaged beyond repair, built without approval, or simply needs to be taken out of use, we can close lines of sight and help start the natural restoration process.
Dave & Glen have teamed up with many user groups and spearheaded trail work of all types, in conjunction with local land managers, open space groups, trail clubs, and regional organizations. Reach out to have a discussion about how we can help!
Got a plan that scratched on the back of a napkin? Want to see what that might look like or do you maybe just want clear plans for a permitting process? While not as fun as being in the field, we can generate professional plans for just about any need and walk clients through visioning, permitting, public outreach - or any other mission project optics needed.
Clear maps and signs improve user experience by letting people know where they are. and helps them decide where they want to go. Newer apps can create confusion as trails might have different names in TrailForks or AllTrails or others, so official maps and signs are important. Good maps and signs are also critical for if, or when, someone needs to call emergency medical services.
